Coburn: White House lost trust on the bill
Senator Tom Coburn in the Wall Street Journal today said that his August experience has convinced him that the American public does not trust the White House on the issue of health care reform, and their sense of hope has turned into a sense of betrayal. If accurate, and given the public reaction so far, it will be very hard to bounce back from this.
Obama himself may be most to blame for this lack of trust. First his remarks on prime-time ABC indicating that the 102 year old lady might have to take the pill, rather than have an expectation of any form of healthcare. Smooth move Mr. President. Then he talked about FedEx and UPS being better than the Post Office: Another smooth move. These two statements alone killed the public option.
So the bill must be scrapped. They must exclude the public option. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
What does it mean: Perhaps a new bill where they only address the 15 million uninsured.
