Hours after the official launch of his re-election campaign, President Barack Obama plans to personally address his grassroots supporters in a conference call Monday night.

Mr. Obama is scheduled to host the call, dubbed a "2012 Kickoff Call" by his campaign, at 7:15 p.m. EDT.

The call will also stream live on the president's campaign website, www.barackobama.com.

Mr. Obama filed paperwork Monday with the Federal Elections Commission, allowing him to begin raising money for what could become the first $1 billion campaign. In 2008, Mr. Obama raised $750 million.

The FEC filing for the Obama for America campaign comes at the start of a new fund-raising quarter. The president's close friend from Chicago, Martin Nesbitt, is listed as the campaign treasurer in the paperwork.

Already the campaign is soliciting donors for several fundraisers planned in coming weeks in Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
