Omnibus Earmarks Cost Taxpayers $18 Billion

I'm all for shutting down government.
Just think how much money that will save us the taxpayers!
Taxes on the rich is one thing, but the budget won't be balanced with this kind of lunatic spending.
These are Lame Duck Democrats pushing this bill that by law was supposed to have happened before Oct 1st.

The House passed last week a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the federal government for this year that is pending on the Senate calendar.  The Senate is trying to pass a secretly crafted $1.1 trillion Omnibus Spending bill as a complete substitute to the CR with about $8 billion in earmarks.  According to Congressional Quarterly (subscription required) the Omnibus comes in at a price tag of "about $18 billion more" than the CR.  Some Senate Republican Appropriators may vote for the Omnibus because of the home state earmarks.

Senator Tom Coburn is perhaps best known for making fools of the big spenders in Washington, and he is doing it yet again.

He has set up a database where you can dig through and find all the corruption, greed, and lunacy in the 1.1 Trillion dollar pork-laden Omnibus spending bill.

If this doesn't pass by Saturday, according to the good senator, the government shuts down.

Perhaps we should let it. Go here now to call your Senator. Tell him to vote no.
