Technology to the rescue!
That's why we need to be hopeful, rather than pessimistic, about the future with respect to the environment.
I predict there will be a whole slew of future technological inventions and improvements to make the so-called sustainable lifestyle a reality.
If you're going to hang your hat on 'hope' it had better be with technology, rather than government. Government doesn't know how to invent anything useful, all they do is steal from one group and pass that largess on to another group.

A Japanese inventor has come up with a machine for converting plastic trash back into oil. A kilogram of plastic can make one liter of oil worth $1.50 by using a heater that burns 20 cents worth of electricity, so it is cost effective. Put to use, there's a whole ocean out there full of plastic.
