Why Is Trump Bigger News Than, Say, Jon Corzine?

My views on Donald Trump are clear.

But I'm rather mystified how "The Donald" being "The Donald" somehow represents a major issue or crisis for the Romney campaign.

The AP: "Trump overshadows Romney with 'birther' talk"

Reuters: "Trump birther remarks overshadow Romney appearance"

The New York Times: "Romney, on His Big Day, Finds Himself Upstaged"

That's a lot of overshadowing, upstaging, hijacking, and so on, the day after a holiday weekend.

First, can anyone find a voter who was inclined to vote for Romney, but who is jumping off the bandwagon because of Trump? A single example of this? I'm talking about more than a Romney supporter who isn't fond of Trump and would prefer the mogul focused on his core competencies, like lines of neckties, board games, and Oreo Double Stuf commercials.

Are the statements of Trump any more or less controversial than those of, say, Obama's million-dollar donor Bill Maher?

Our old friend Byron York talks about "the repudiation game":

By one-sided, they mean not only that Obama has not disavowed SuperPAC contributor Bill Maher for a number of Maher's statements that were particularly insulting to Republican women. They also mean the press, with, as Team Romney see it, questionable associations of its own. Has David Gregory, moderator of NBC's "Meet the Press," repudiated his colleague Al Sharpton, the MSNBC host with a decades-long record of incendiary statements and actions? And has, say, the New York Times columnist Gail Collins repudiated her colleague Charles Blow, who once wrote to Romney, "Stick that in your magic underwear"? Romney, his team believes, understands that the calls for him to repudiate Trump over the issue of birtherism — and future calls to repudiate this or that supporter next week or next month over some other issue — are at the core all about politics.

The Obama campaign kept the money Jon Corzine raised while returning his personal donation. Why is Trump a bigger controversy than that?

Obama reads from teleprompter "my sons"

I think it's simply a teleprompter mistake, and that Obama isn't smart enough to sway from the text in time.


Much has been said about Barack Obama's recent pair of teleprompted references to his (presumably) non-existent sons. 

Thomas Lifson toys with the notion that Obama might in fact have secret sons, as a way of making sense of the seeming insanity of it.  Selwyn Duke suggests it might indicate brain damage from Obama's (presumably) past drug use.  (Funny, isn't it, how often one is left no choice but merely to presume about the Cipher-in-Chief.)  David Paulin asks whether Obama might be the victim of a teleprompting prankster/saboteur.

Welcome to Everyone Blog About Brett Kimberlin Day!  It's shaping up to be quite an effort.  To try and keep up with all the posts related to this event, I'll be relying on some other bloggers.  So, here are some links.  Many are from bloggers that I have not visited before, so drop by their sites.

I.   The Speedway Bombings

For a terrifying week in 1978, a series of seemingly random bombings terrified the residents of Speedway, Indiana.  One bomb maimed Carl DeLong and cost him a leg; he never fully recovered from his injuries, and committed suicide in 1983.

In October 1981, Brett Kimberlin (pictured above) was convicted for these acts of domestic terrorism and sentenced to 50 years in prison.  More information on the Speedway Bombings, including investigators' theory that the bombings were intended to distract law enforcement from a recent murder, can be found at the Indianapolis Star's website, here.

Brett Kimberlin was paroled in 1994, and he is making news again; not for the Speedway Bombings, but for the way he's chose to live his life since being released from prison and for the people who are giving him money.

II.   Brett Kimberlin, Community Organizer

Brett Kimberlin is the director of a tax-exempt organization called the Justice Through Music Project, which uses music to "organize, educate, and activate" young people.  He also is the co-founder of another tax-exempt organization, Velvet Revolution, a network of Liberal organizations "demanding progressive change."

Velvet Revolution has made headlines by demanding the arrests of high-profile Conservatives, including Karl Rove and Andrew Breitbart.  According to Fox News, in 2009, Velvet Revolution offered $200,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Chamber of Commerce CEO Tom Donohue, in retaliation for the Chamber's objections to President Obama's agenda.  Given Brett Kimberlin's violent past, the Chamber was forced to re-evaluate its security needs as a result of the "bounty" on Donohue's head.

How immutable are our First Amendment rights? Would they remain so even under the most dire conditions? Since the beginnings of the Tea Party revolution, the liberals have accused us of being disorderly, rude, vicious, etc. Many on the left have said they have worried that violence would ensue from the gatherings of normal Americans who were concerned about their country. Once again, we see the liberals are guilty of the very charges they have directed at conservatives.

Some may wonder why I would write about Brett Kimberlin. I'm sure he hasn't a clue who this small time blogger from Oklahoma is. The answer is simple. There is very little in this world I despise more than a bully and Brett Kimberlin is just such a man. He is a felon, convicted of heinous crimes against his fellow citizens, who had done him no harm. In my own small fashion, this is my way of spitting in the face of the bully and standing with my friends around the blogsphere. I'm doing my best to have their back

If you are at all aware of the existence of the Right Side of the Blogosphere you should know today has been dubbed: " Everybody blog about Brett Kimberlin day"

This was coined by Lee Stranahan in response to the forced repatriation of Robert Stacy McCain, writer for the American Spectator, Reporter for 30+ years, member of the Axis of Fedora, and lean mean blogging machine whosay the story of the attempt to silence blogger Aaron Worthing, immediately recognized it as newsworthy and pursued it to the point where it has been necessary for Mr. McCain to relocate himself and his family out of his home and out of his state for their own protection.

I blog for fun (mostly). Yes I'm political, and yes I'm provocative, but absent the occasional nutjob emailer I guess I'm not important enough to get the whackos really fired up. Which is fine by me.

Other bloggers aren't so lucky. Robert Stacy McCain was recentlyforced to flee his home, and go into hiding with his wife and children. Why? Because a left-wing "activist" named Brett Kimberlin didn't like Stacy digging into his past.

That's it for now folks.  I'll be keeping up with the story as the day wears on.  I do want to do another post, but I have a busy day ahead of me here.  If I can, I want to cover the story of another blogger targeted by Kimberlin and his associates.

Paul Ryan owns Austan Goolsbee

Austan Goolsbee: This was a case where they (Bain) cancelled the pensions they drove the company into the ground. But the investors from Bain actually profited a great deal.

Chris Wallace (host): Let me follow up with Congressman Ryan because the Obama campaign says the point of Romney economics is to make money for Bain, to make money for their investors, even if all the workers get wiped out. And, in this particular case, in the steel mill in Kansas City the workers, that plant went bankrupt. 750 workers were laid off and Bain did make millions of dollars in profits.

Paul Ryan: You know what's ironic about this, Chris? Mitt Romney was running the Olympics during this time.   He wasn't even running Bain during the time period in question.   I think the individual, if I'm not mistaken who was running Bain is a big Obama contributor.   But, more to the point Chris. What Bain did was they used "private" capital to help struggling businesses. What President Obama is doing, is he's gambling with taxpayer money   and giving money to corporate contributors, campaign contributors like Solyndra   and he's losing taxpayer money.   So what we have in the Obama administration is this crony capitalism   this corporate welfare   where President Obama thinks it's right to take taxpayer dollars to give to private companies and take bets on these private companies.   That's wrong. What is right is a private sector where you have risk to capital. You put capital in businesses where they're struggling or not to try to grow those businesses. Some succeed. Some don't. On the net when Mitt Romney ran Bain they were very successful. They created thousands of jobs.   Great success stories.   But more to the point. We don't think that government should be in the position of picking winners and losers in the economy which is the result of the president's economics.

Only Obama Is Better Off

The only person I know who is better off today than he was four years ago is President Obama.

He's making more money, living in a bigger house, and playing more golf. And when his wife goes on a shopping spree with her girlfriends, it's to Spain on the taxpayer's dime.


Meanwhile, as the president skates through the Great Recession, his failure to get the economy back on track has turned a country known for its optimism and belief in a better future into a nation of pessimists.

According to a recent opinion poll by Scott Rasmussen's company, 63 percent of voters — liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans — do not think today's children will be better off than their parents.

That's unbelievable. But what's even more discouraging is that only 16 percent — 1 in 6 — do think the next generation will be better off.

The percentage believing the next generation will live better than their parents is a record low. As Scott Rasmussen said, people think something is going terribly wrong in America. They're not sure what it is, he said, but they sure don't like it.

I know what's gone wrong with America — we've had four years of President Obama's bad ideas and hot air. That's why the 1,000 voters Rasmussen polled see a gloomy future everywhere they look — the economy, stocks, housing, you name it.

And remember the American dream? Forget it. Only 32 percent think it's still possible for "just about anyone in America to work hard and get rich."

About the only silver lining to be found in the Rasmussen poll is that 53 percent think it's still possible for anyone in America to work themselves out of poverty.

That's a good thing to believe in, because by the time the Obama administration and his wrecking crew finish turning America into Greece, 53 percent of the country is going to be poor.

This week the Obama re-election campaign released an ad called "We're Coming Back." It's a blatant rip-off of Ronald Reagan's 1984 "Morning in America" ad that pointed out how much stronger, prouder, and better America had become during my father's first four years.

The Obama ad claims that we're on the road to recovery and says the president is working hard to finish the job he started. It's not supposed to be funny.

But there's one serious problem with the Obama ad — after four years of his reign of errors, things are not getting better. And he has no new ideas, just the same bad Big Government ones he's been pushing — more taxes, more spending, and more regulation.

When "Morning in America" ran in 1984, inflation and interest rates were half what they had been in 1980 and were going down. There were no more lines at the gas pumps and no more gloomy talk from the Oval Office about a national "malaise."

Ronald Reagan turned the country around the right way. He lowered taxes, cut regulations, and got the government off the back of businesses and out of the way of the American people.

After four years of my father's administration, Americans could see real signs of improvement and a hopeful future for the country. That's why RR was re-hired. After four years of President Obama, our only hope is that in November he is fired.

This past Sunday morning, I took to my blog, The New York Conservative, to opine on the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (“KSM”) and his fellow terrorists. The full text of the post is available further below.

The New York Conservative was a blog hosted by Google Blogger. I started the blog in February of this year and had posted 17 columns prior to the KSM entry, commenting on political matters and issues affecting the Catholic Church. I would post my entries on Facebook and occasionally would email a link to friends or other interested parties. I received no complaints about the blog whatsoever.
On Monday, the pro-U.S. security group Secure American Now posted a link to my KSM piece on its website. The link received numerous hits and generated multiple comments on the Secure America Now page.

However, a few hours after Secure America Now linked to the New York Conservative, I received a form email, no reply possible, from Google Blogger informing me that the New York Conservative had been deleted. The email classified my blog as “spam” in violation of Google’s terms of service. There was no further explanation. My URL was dead; all of the content, everything I ever posted, was gone.
I made two telephone calls to Google to protest and demand a reason for the deletion of my blog. The Google representatives told me that Google does not provide “live support” for Google Blogger, meaning you cannot speak with anyone at all about the deletion. The representatives directed me to the Google Blogger website, where the company extols its commitment to free speech and its great reluctance to censor its bloggers. 

Obviously, I do not know why Google deleted my blog, but it's awfully odd that The New York Conservative was summarily executed after a post in which I called for the summary execution of KSM. Could it be that Google found the post politically incorrect and therefore offensive? Could it be that Google thought the post was dangerous because it had potential to incite Islamists?
Given the company’s self-proclaimed devotion to free speech, I think Google ought to explain why it deleted the blog. If calling for the legal execution of the confessed mastermind of the murders of 3,000 people on American soil is too controversial a topic for Google Blogger, perhaps the famously progressive company should re-think its proclamation of support for the free exchange of ideas on its platforms.

Below, you can read my near-identical reproduction of the text of the post which brought about this debacle:
After 11 years, KSM and his fellow terrorists have at last been brought to trial. The very first proceeding in the trial, the arraignments of the defendants, commenced on Saturday at 9:23 am. What should have been a simple proceeding lasted 13 hours, marred by the endless antics of the terrorists and their attorneys, including a female defense attorney who appeared in a burka and demanded that other women in the court dress likewise in order not to offend the religious sensibilities of the murders.
The military prosecutor predicted that this circus would persist for years, allowing the terrorists a platform to make a mockery of the judicial process we offer them and to heap additional suffering upon the families of the victims of terrorist attacks.

To what end? In June 2008, KSM was brought before a tribunal at Guantanamo Bay. He announced at that time that he wished to enter a guilty plea so he could be “martyred.” He expressed the same desire again in December 2008. In a criminal proceeding, the accused always has the option of entering a plea of “not guilty” and demanding a trial or entering a guilty plea and accepting his sentence. So, as is apparent, when one pleads guilty and admits his crime, there is no need for a trial. Instead of years of pointless proceedings to try issues not in dispute, the Court should simply say:
“The Court hereby deems your previously entered plea of guilty as accepted and shall now impose sentence. The sentence of the Court is that you be taken hence to the place of execution and that you there be hanged by the neck until dead. May God have mercy on your soul. Next case.”

It is ironic that this debacle of a trial begins on the heels of President Obama’s obscene self-congratulatory celebration of the anniversary of the death of Osama Bin Laden. While the president tries to pass himself off as the greatest commander since Alexander, the KSM trial reminds us that the president is a man who built his political career on decrying Gitmo and accusing his own country of “torturing” KSM and his fellow killers. Obama’s first act as president was to announce the closure of Gitmo.

It was the president who delayed the KSM trial by an additional four years. It was his Justice Department that sought to bring this outrageous circus-trial to federal district court in Manhattan and launched a witch-hunt against CIA operatives and government lawyers for their conduct of, and participation in, the enhanced interrogation program, even after these public servants had previously been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Of course, we now know that only three men were ever waterboarded, and then only briefly and under carefully controlled circumstances. We know that the intelligence gathered from these men, and other terrorists held at Gitmo, contributed mightily to the successful search for Bin Laden, ultimately enabling Obama to give his “gusty” order and parade Bin Laden’s head on a political pike.
Regardless of Obama’s image propaganda, the fact remains that, more than a decade after 9/11, the families of the terrorists’ victims, and nation at large, must endure a lengthy and absurd exercise to confer “due process” on men who scorn the very notion; men who have no interest in the “justice” we extend to them and who proudly trumpet their guilt before the Court that is charged with trying that very issue.

It need not be so. In mid-June 1942, two parties of Nazi spies came ashore on Long Island and in Florida. By June 27th, all eight men who had infiltrated the country had been arrested. They were tried before a military commissioned appointed by President Roosevelt between July 8th and August 4, 1942. All were condemned to death. The president commuted the sentences of two men; the other six were executed on August 8, 1942, four days after their convictions.
President Obama fancies himself another Roosevelt. As such he ought to emulate his predecessor’s penchant for dispatching swift justice to war criminals. Prolonging a phony justice process only compounds the already unspeakable injustice KSM perpetrated. He has confessed his guilt. We should execute him without further delay.

moocher society: job openings increase, yet 88 million still out of workplace

This just goes to show that this administrations policies (99 weeks of unemployment, Keynesian stimulus) are bad for our economy.

Capitalism would work better if the government would just leave it alone.

There are jobs, but the lazy moochers just don't want to work because they have little incentive when government gives them enough that they don't have to go out and get a job....

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Job openings at U.S. workplaces increased to 3.74 million in March from 3.57 million in February, the U.S. Labor Department reported Tuesday. Compared with the prior year, job openings rose 17% -- private openings increased 17% to 3.36 million... Full Story
