Obama on Obamacare: “We did raise taxes on some things.”

This is an important milestone in healing.
Obama admits the truth, that's the first step.
Now he can start to heal from all those lies he told about Obamacare...

Obama on Obamacare: "We did raise taxes on some things."

"Some things" means uninsured families, med devices, flex accounts, small businesses, people with high medical bills and even charitable hospitals.

During his Tuesday remarks at the Clinton Global Initiative, President Obama admitted that his health care law raises taxes:  "So what we did — it's paid for by a combination of things. We did raise taxes on some things."

"Some things" is an understatement. Below is just a partial list of Obamacare's new or higher taxes on Americans:

Starting in tax year 2013:

Obamacare Medical Device Tax:  Medical device manufacturers employ 409,000 people in 12,000 plants across the country. Obamacare imposes a new 2.3 percent excise tax on gross sales – even if the company does not earn a profit in a given year.  In addition to killing small business jobs and impacting research and development budgets, this will make everything from pacemakers to artificial hips more expensive.

Obamacare High Medical Bills Tax: Before Obamacare, Americans facing high medical expenses were allowed a deduction to the extent that those expenses exceeded 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income (AGI).  Obamacare now imposes a threshold of 10 percent of AGI.  Therefore, Obamacare not only makes it more difficult to claim this deduction, it widens the net of taxable income.

According to the IRS, 10 million families took advantage of this tax deduction in 2009, the latest year of available data. Almost all are middle class. The average taxpayer claiming this deduction earned just over $53,000 annually. ATR estimates that the average income tax increase for the average family claiming this tax benefit will be $200 - $400 per year. To learn more about this tax, click here.

Obamacare Flexible Spending Account Tax:  The 30 - 35 million Americans who use a pre-tax Flexible Spending Account (FSA) at work to pay for their family's basic medical needs face a new Obamacare cap of $2,500. This will squeeze $13 billion of tax money from Americans over the next ten years. (Before Obamacare, the accounts were unlimited under federal law, though employers were allowed to set a cap.) Now, a parent looking to sock away extra money to pay for braces will find themselves quickly hitting this new cap, meaning they would have to pony up some or all of the cost with after-tax dollars.

Needless to say, this tax will especially impact middle class families.

There is one group of FSA owners for whom this new cap will be particularly cruel and onerous: parents of special needs children.  Nationwide there are several million families with special needs children and many of them use FSAs to pay for special needs education. Tuition rates at one leading school that teaches special needs children in Washington, D.C. (National Child Research Center) can easily exceed $14,000 per year. Under tax rules, FSA dollars can be used to pay for this type of special needs education. This Obamacare tax provision will limit the options available to these families.

Obamacare Super Saver Surtax: A new, 3.8 percent surtax on investment income earned in households making at least $250,000 ($200,000 single). This tax hike results in the following top tax rates on investment income:

Capital Gains

Dividends

Other*

2013+

23.8%

23.8%

43.4%

*Other unearned income includes (for surtax purposes) gross income from interest, annuities, royalties, net rents, and passive income in partnerships and Subchapter-S corporations.  It does not include municipal bond interest or life insurance proceeds, since those do not add to gross income.  It does not include active trade or business income, fair market value sales of ownership in pass-through entities, or distributions from retirement plans.

Obamacare Medicare Payroll Tax Increase:

Starting in tax year 2014:

Obamacare Individual Mandate Non-Compliance Tax:  Starting in 2014, anyone not buying "qualifying" health insurance – as defined by President Obama's Department of Health and Human Services -- must pay an income surtax to the IRS. The Congressional Budget Office recently estimated that six million American families will be liable for the tax, and as pointed out by the Associated Press:  "Most would be in the middle class."

In addition, 100 percent of Americans filing a tax return (140 million filers) will be forced to submit paperwork to the IRS showing they either had "qualifying" health insurance for every month of the tax year or they obtained an exemption to the mandate.

Americans liable for the surtax will pay according to the following schedule:

1 Adult

2 Adults

3+ Adults

2014

1% AGI/$95

1% AGI/$190

1% AGI/$285

2015

2% AGI/$325

2% AGI/$650

2% AGI/$975

2016 +

2.5% AGI/$695

2.5% AGI/$1390

2.5% AGI/$2085

(Delayed by Obama to 2015) Obamacare Employer Mandate Tax:  If an employer does not offer health coverage, and at least one employee qualifies for a health tax credit, the employer must pay an additional non-deductible tax of $2,000 for all full-time employees.  This provision applies to all employers with 50 or more employees. If any employee actually receives coverage through the exchange, the penalty on the employer for that employee rises to $3,000. If the employer requires a waiting period to enroll in coverage of 30-60 days, there is a $400 tax per employee ($600 if the period is 60 days or longer).

Obamacare Tax on Health Insurers:  Annual tax on the industry imposed relative to health insurance premiums collected that year.  The tax phases in gradually until 2018.  Fully imposed on firms with $50 million in profits.

Starting in tax year 2018:

Obamacare Tax on Union Member and Early Retiree Health Insurance Plans:  Obamacare imposes

a new 40 percent excise tax on high cost or "Cadillac" health insurance plans, effective in 2018. This tax increase will most directly affect union families and early retirees, who are likely to be covered by such plans. This Obamacare tax will be levied on insurance policies whose premiums exceed $10,200 for an individual and $27,500 for a family.  Middle class union members tend to be covered by such plans in states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan.  Higher threshold ($11,500 single/$29,450 family) for early retirees and high-risk professions. CPI +1 percentage point indexed.

Shut `er down

7 days until the Democrats shut down the government

Monday, September 23, 2013

Our 'Reps' in congress don't care about us, only themselves

Why should they get an exemption from 0bamacare?
Our tyrannically 'representatives' in congress didn't even read the bill before passing it.
I suspect many of them don't even read 2000 pages in a year, let alone read the 2000 page ACA bill.
They were given less than 3 days to read the bill before the vote.
I'll bet they still haven't read it.
They don't care about us, they only care about themselves and their so-called compassion,
yet they never think about the unintended consequences of their votes including but not limited to:
- Lost jobs
- Hours cut
- Lost healthcare options
- Huge cost increases in the last 3 years alone.

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/canary-coal-mine_756591.html

The poll data is clear and cuts across party lines: 92 percent of the public does not think it is right that Congress and their staff are letting the Obama administration exempt them from the costs of Obamacare. Yet it seems many in Congress still want to dismiss these findings in hopes that these sentiments won't translate into actual voter preferences.

Shut it Down!

We won't be missing much.

A poll from Rasmussen Reports out on Tuesday shows that a majority would be open to a government shutdown to allow for the defunding of Obamacare. This is evidence that the American people are willing to give Tea Partiers more than what they are asking for. Rasmussen found 51 percent of Americans support "having a partial government shutdown until Democrats and Republicans agree on what spending for the health care law to cut" and 53 percent of Americans support a partial shutdown until Democrats and Republicans can agree on what general spending to cut.

The Hell It Doesn't: "Raising Debt Ceiling, Does Not Increase Our Debt"

He should have studied math, logic and statistics in school, instead of radical communism...

'Raising Debt Ceiling, Does Not Increase Our Debt'...

The fact that the U.S. has hit its debt ceiling "over a hundred times" - and, thus, has had to keep raising it - is proof that raising the limit does, in fact, lead to increased debt.

Karl: "You're threatening default, The president says he won't even negotiate, how is that tenable."

ABC's Jonathan Karl questions Carney over Obama saying he'll default on the debt.
Obama said he won't negotiate, meaning if a bill to raise debt comes his way, with other provisions to reign in the growth of government (Obamacare defunding), then he will not sign it.

This MEANS OBAMA IS THREATENING TO DEFAULT ON OUR DEBT!

EPA allowed to make arrests? News to me

I take exception to the EPA and similar agencies being allowed to make arrests.
That should be reserved to the police, and the police alone.
The EPA can contact the police to make an arrest, if it is warranted.
Indeed, this is a textbook definition of tyranny.

Just be sure that if you own property along the coast in Florida to extinguish your lights at night (for the turtles) or the Jack-booted EPA stormtroopers will swoop in to get you!

Why have we let the Federal government get out of hand?

The Senate, in a bill from Commrade Senator Feinstein, is currently taking up a bill that defines 'Journalist' which excludes bloggers. This is a direct violation of the First Amendment to the Constitution. I suppose the next think I'll know, I'll have stormtroopers at my door for writing about the tyranny of the Federal Government.

Armed EPA raid in Alaska sheds light on 70 fed agencies with armed divisions

The recent uproar over armed EPA agents descending on a tiny Alaska mining town is shedding light on the fact that 40 federal agencies – including nearly a dozen typically not associated with law enforcement -- have armed divisions.

The agencies employ about 120,000 full-time officers authorized to carry guns and make arrests, according to a June 2012 Justice Department report.

Though most Americans know agents within the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Federal Bureau of Prisons carry guns, agencies such as the Library of Congress and Federal Reserve Board employing armed officers might come as a surprise.

The incident that sparked the renewed interest and concern occurred in late August when a team of armed federal and state officials descended on the tiny Alaska gold mining town of Chicken, Alaska.

The Environmental Protection Agency, whose armed agents in full body armor participated, acknowledged taking part in the Alaska Environmental Crimes Task Force investigation, which it said was conducted to look for possible violations of the Clean Water Act.

However, EPA officials denied the operation was a "raid" and didn't address speculation about whether it was connected to possible human and drug trafficking.

"Imagine coming up to your diggings, only to see agents swarming over it like ants, wearing full body armor, with jackets that say "POLICE" emblazoned on them, and all packing side arms," gold miner C.R. Hammond told the Alaska Dispatch.

The other federal agencies participating in the operation were the FBI, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Coast Guard, the National Oceanic and the Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Park Service.

The FBI, Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management and Park Service are among 24 federal agencies employing more than 250 full-time armed officers with arrest authority, according the federal report, which is based on the 2008 Census of Federal Law Enforcement Officers.

The other 16 agencies have less than 250 officers and include NOAA as well as the Library of Congress, the Federal Reserve Board and the National Institutes of Health.

The number of federal department with armed personnel climbs to 73 when adding in the 33 offices of inspector general, the government watchdogs for agencies as large as the Postal Service to the Government Printing Office, whose IG has only five full-time officers.

The EPA defended its use of armed officers, after the Alaska incident.

"Environmental law enforcement, like other forms of law enforcement, always involves the potential for physical, even armed, confrontation," the agency said.

But Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell has already ordered an investigation, saying "This level of intrusion and intimidation of Alaskans is absolutely unacceptable."

In addition, Alaska Sens. Lisa Murkowski, Republican, and Mark Begich, Democrat, have inquired about the incident.

Murkowski said purported concerns about rampant drug and human trafficking in the area sounded "wholly concocted" to her.

"This seems to have been a heavy-handed and heavy-armor approach. Why was it so confrontational? The EPA really didn't have any good answers for this," she told the newspaper.

This is not the first time armed EPA guards have been accused of intimidating behavior.

In May 2012, North Carolina resident Larry Keller was visited by armed EPA agents after sending an email to Al Armendariz, the regional administrator who was video-taped saying his enforcement strategy was to "crucify" executives from big oil and gas companies.

"The charter of the EPA is to protect the environment and public, not to act as a quasi federal police department," Keller said after the brief but tense exchange with agents about whether the missive might seem suspicious.

The Department of Homeland Security employs nearly half of all federal officers, through Customs and Border Protection and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, the most recent statistics show. The statistics also show the number of CBP officers increased by 33 percent from 2004 to 2008. The number for ICE was 20 percent over the same period.

Meanwhile, the four largest Interior Department agencies employed fewer officers during that time, including the Park Police, which employed 547 officers in 2008, 11 percent less than four years earlier, according to the 2012 report.

Re: ACA opposition

ha, just for fun google this:
"see what's in it"

And you'll get over one million results, all Pelosi...

...Actually the house of Representatives passed a whole slew of bills, at the time of ACA in 2010 and even in the current fiscal year, that consist of common sense solutions like cross state competition, and including some of the good provisions from ACA like keeping sons & daughters on parent's healthcare plans up to age 26. None of the Republican plans were anywhere near 2000 pages.

Remember the prescient comment from comrade Pelosi one day before the 0bamacare vote: "We're going to have to pass this bill so we can see what's in it"   ha! That's because none of the Democrat representatives even read it. Not true of the Republican bills.

Position on Syria

Mr. Punky's position on Syria strikes is evolving, he is now in favour of a very limited strike,  but ONLY on the chemical weapons themselves, and nothing else. Rationale: whoever ultimately ends up in control will inherit those weapons and he wouldn't want al Qaeda or the Muslim Brotherhood in control of them any more than Assad.

If only 0bama would frame the mission as he just did, the president might get more support from the public.
