Foundation leads U.S. conservation
This from the same family that donated the building materials from the Mellon mansion in Pittsburgh when it was deconstructed; to be used to constuct the beautiful church in New Kensington...
Monsignor Fusco's charisma, brilliance and leadership soon changed all that. When in 1940, the parish grew to 2400 families he motivated his people to work with him to turn the fabulous and terrestrial paradise of the Mellon Estate in Pittsburgh, PA which was being torn down, into a beautiful monumental Temple of God. We find in Mount St. Peter's the marble, the alabaster, the bronzes, the fine woods, the sandstone, the art works of the Mellon Mansion put together by Monsignor in such a way that they rise up and say: "My God, how great Thou art!" ...
One of his most memorable achievements was the building of the present Mt. St. Peter Church on a high knoll at Freeport Road and Seventh Street. Many skeptics watched as this energetic priest, operating on a shoestring budget, led the congregation in the building of a magnificent church from material salvaged from the 65-room Mellon mansion in Pittsburgh.
