The ends DOES NOT justify the means

Global Warming has been made into a 'political' issue:

1). Global warming, if simply a theory in the scientific community ought not get this kind of press; especially since the time frame is extremely long and the reaction in the non-scientific community is knee jerk.

2). Pollution (meaning real pollution like SO2) is hurting us today. CO2 is not pollution.

3). I actually agree that we need to develop alternate forms of energy, especially Nuclear Energy, but for the reasons I have stated, not because of so-called global warming.

4). Nature's biggest problems are encroachment, and acid rain, not global warming.

5). Mankind's biggest problem isn't global warming, it is increase in population; and that will eventually impact nature.

To the media and many politicians, global warming is simply a 'means' to an 'end' (sort of like lying to your child to get them to take their medicine). That is not the honorable way to go in my book. We need to honestly address the current menaces to nature and society because there is no drought of problems, why do we need this invented crisis? It only causes the people who see that there is no definitive proof to doubt all science: the cry wolf syndrome.

And keep in mind that Kyoto is not even close to being complied with by many of the nations that ratified it, including 13 of the EU-15 nations that are not going to meet their emission reduction promises." .. "The Kyoto Protocol is a lot of economic pain for no climate gain." .. "Symbolism does not solve a climate crisis." .. "It is the global warming alarmists who should be asked the question -- "What if they are correct about man-made catastrophic global warming?" -- because they have come up with no meaningful solution to their supposed climate crisis in the two decades that they have been hyping this issue."

Karzai: "We need more action around the world."

Bush says he doesn't have time to finger point (a reference to Bill Clinton's finger pointing in the Fox News interview), he has to fight terrorists. He takes the high ground. That's character. Clinton looked ridiculous in that Fox News interview.

Karzai had some excellent remarks as well. I heard Karzai speak on the radio. He is an excellent speaker. The words had more meaning when heard, although they are not bad just reading...

PRESIDENT KARZAI: Terrorism was hurting us way before Iraq or September 11th. The President mentioned some examples of it. These extremist forces were killing people in Afghanistan and around for years, closing schools, burning mosques, killing children, uprooting vineyards, with vine trees, grapes hanging on them, forcing populations to poverty and misery.

They came to America on September 11th, but they were attacking you
before September 11th in other parts of the world. We are a witness in Afghanistan to what they are and how they can hurt. You are a witness in New York. Do you forget people jumping off the 80th floor or 70th floor when the planes hit them? Can you imagine what it will be for a man or a woman to jump off that high? Who did that? And where are they now? And how do we fight them, how do we get rid of them, other than going after them? Should we wait for them to come and kill us again? That's why we need more action around the world, in Afghanistan and elsewhere, to get them defeated -- extremism, their allies, terrorists and the like.

California is legislating from the bench: it is trying to affect all Americans with a frivolous lawsuit; backed by unsound science that has not been proven.

The state of California is suing six carmakers for costs associated with their cars' greenhouse gas emissions.

Ha, that's tyranny for you. Thomas Jefferson said it best: "To consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all constitutional questions [is] a very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy." The proper way to handle this: first, we need better proof of a relationship between Carbon Dioxide produced by mankind (as opposed to CO2 from volcanoes and other natural sources) and global warming; second, we need to try to handle this in a voluntary way; third, we need to develop nuclear power as an alternative to coal-fired power plants, which are a major contributor to both harmless CO2 and to real pollution, fourth and finally: assuming all these other steps have been taken, and it is determined that more need be done: the legislature of the Unitied States needs to put forth an amendment to the constitution to change the way we generate CO2. Nothing less than an amendment is constitutional.

That's because this adds to Bush's chances in the fall election (thus adding to the Republicans chances). It's the old game-playing mini-max strategy again. The media and the Democrats just don't get it, do they..? It's called the 'backlash'. NPR led every hour yesterday with the Chavez 'Devil' comment, yet NPR, whom we all know to be left-leaning, doesn't even realize what the backlash will be. It's almost funny, because NPR was probably GLEEFUL to lead with the story; and they just don't get it. They need to moderate before a major election, not swing to the left. CO2 is plant food; Al Gore is toast

Al Gore wants to tax pollution, not payrolls.The biggest problem is: At 380 parts per million, Carbon Dioxide is NOT a pollutant! Gore better go back to college to learn his chemistry. CO2 is plant food! Plants utilize carbon dioxide during photosynthesis, using both the carbon and the oxygen to construct carbohydrates. In addition, plants also release oxygen to the atmosphere, which is subsequently used for respiration by heterotrophic organisms, forming a cycle.

"Penalizing pollution instead of penalizing employment will work to reduce that pollution," Gore said in a speech at New York University School of Law. "Instead of discouraging businesses from hiring more employees it would discourage business from producing more pollution," Gore said.

Al Gore should choose his words with better precision. Or he should pick his issues more carefully. :)

The Devil? Speaks for itself, doesn't it.

Economy goes like gangbusters

More good news: the economy continues on a role. Record high U.S. corporate tax receipts in the third quarter (a 20% increase over last year) signal stronger corporate profits for the period and the likelihood of a smaller budget deficit than forecast for 2006 and possibly 2007. The Bush tax cuts have been the catalyst for an historic economic boom. Only one thing could spoil it: the Democrats, because they would raise taxes.

Gore: Scaremongering with Globalony

I say to Al Gore: there you go again. He only has one issue.

Gore -- "When we make big mistakes in America, it is usually because the people have not been given an honest accounting of the choices before us," Gore said in an hour-long speech at New York University Law School.

Translation: We haven't lied enough to the people of America, we need to do a better job in convincing Americans to give up more of their liberties, based on what we claim might happen 100 years from now. They won't know the difference, and we'll have their freedoms right where we want them, in our greedy power hungry mits.

Gore -- "It also is often because too many members of both parties who knew better did not have the courage to do better."

Translation: It is because the members haven't propagated unsound science, haven't had the courage to misrepresent the future.

Gore -- "Each passing day brings yet more evidence that we are now facing a planetary emergency, a climate crisis that demands immediate attention,"

Translation: Well, there are plenty of natural phenomena, like hurricanes, which have always been happening, so why not scare people into thinking that driving cars is causing the localized phenomenon? Scaremongering with Globalony.

Gore -- "We can change this by inventing and manufacturing new solutions to stop global warming right here in America," he said, adding that venture capitalists are eager to put money behind effective technologies to cut greenhouse gases.

Translation: We can change this by inventing and manufacturing new lies to scare the people out of their liberties. We need to control every aspect of your lives, and take all your money. Because of the tax breaks, Venture capitalists are eager to squander money on technologies which cost Americans gobs of money, do little to cut greenhouse gases, not that greenhouse gases harm us anyway, they don't, and are not yet ready for primetime.

Al Gore claims that "each passing day brings yet more evidence that we are now facing a planetary emergency." Hypothetically, what if I were to claim that an asteroid is going to hit the earth in 50 years, and that we are all going to die. Let's say I have some circumstantial evidence. Others will tell me that just because there is a wealth of circumstantial evidence, that does not provide a case, and they would be correct. In order to prove something, lots of small pieces of evidence do not add up to a correlation or a proof. This is classical logic theory. In order to prove something, the pieces of evidence must be strongly related, and must lead to the conclusion directly and most completely. So then what if I said to those skeptics of my asteroid hypothesis "How can you prove that it isn't possible?" Do you get my drift. It is impossible to prove that it isn't possible, because it IS possible. Just not likely.

19 MPH should get people's attention

Democrats offer fallacious arguments

I've been told that the film "Path to 9/11" is a "concoction of lies that ignores the 9/11 Commission Report."

I disagree, it has been shown to follow that report to a T.

First, ABC withdrew the controversial scenes. They were not aired. The only remaining scene that was not withdrawn was the one line from Clinton's own mouth: "I'm going to say this again. I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky."

Even the scenes they cut were very close to the 9/11 Commission Report. That is a fact. The only so-called revisions to history that the filmmaker made were not the things that were said (like the one scene where it was said that they would not apprehend Bin Laden, for whatever bogus reason), but who in the Clinton administration that actually said it. The scene had Sandy Berger saying it (the same Sandy Berger who was convicted of stealing classified terror documents from a reading room of the National Archives prior to testifying before the 9/11 Commission), when in real life it was another administration official. Big deal, that certainly falls within the realm of cinematic license, the facts are objectively still true, the only subjective part is who said them. The important fact is that Clinton had opportunities to apprehend Bin Laden, and did not. I myself do not fault him for that, because hindsight is 20/20, but it is a fact, and the idea that the Democrats want to hide that fact is fallacious.

What is not necessarily certain to me, is how many true facts actually exist in the 9/11 Report, or more likely, how many omissions were purposefully left out, or to what degree that incident in the National Archives played a role in shaping the output of the 9/11 Commission (and who sent Sandy Berger in there to change 'history'). One thing is glaringly true: Clinton did nothing to stem the upcoming security threats posed by terrorism. Even after the '93 WTC bombing, he did nothing. Bush is the only president to do something about terrorism. And the left vilifies him for it. The world is becoming inverted to normalcy.

How can Bush be blamed for 9/11? I say both administrations did little up to that point, and more blame must rest squarely on Clinton's shoulders, because measures to prevent terrorism must be planned very far in advance to be effective. Bush was only in office 8 months, not much time to do something at that point, but he has surely made up for it in the mean time! It is time for the D's to stop playing politics and to reunite behind all Americans in the common defense.

I'm fed up with Democrats and Old-Stream Media. Their outrageous criticisms of our president and our war on terror make me livid! Finally a leader inside the beltway says so himself:

"I wonder if they are more interested in protecting the terrorists than protecting the American people," said House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio. "They certainly do not want to take the terrorists on and defeat them."

Congratulations on saying the truth: that the Democrats lend aid to the enemy with their attacks on the president.

Sens. Ted Stevens (R-Alas.) and Robert Byrd (D-W.V.) are the acknowledged kings of pork-barrel spending. They bring billions of taxpayer dollars to their states to ensure their hold on power. But apparently, that's not enough. They also want to make certain that you and I don't see what they get away with. So secretly they tried to keep us in the dark.

Each year since 2004, on Sept. 17, we commemorate the 1787 signing of the U.S. Constitution by 39 American statesmen. The legislation creating Constitution Day was fathered by Sen. Robert Byrd and requires federal agencies and federally funded schools, including universities, to have some kind of educational program on the Constitution.

I cannot think of a piece of legislation that makes greater mockery of the Constitution, or a more constitutionally odious person to father it -- Sen. Byrd, a person who is known as, and proudly wears the label, "King of Pork." The only reason that Constitution Day hasn't become a laughingstock is because most Americans are totally ignorant of, or have contempt for, the letter and spirit of our Constitution.

Diplomacy with terrorists will not work; never has, never will

I disagree with this career bureaucrat. The terror is happening everywhere, look at U.S., Britain, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Mid-East, Afghanistan, etc. it is global, and it is a war; they attack anywhere and everywhere. How can anyone deny that these terrorists hate the west?

1. Al Qaeda Has Been Virtually Eliminated as a Threat

I wouldn't agree, look at Iraq, those are some of the same people who are part of Al Qaeda. They have always existed, and always hated us. No one 'created' their hate for the west.

2. What We Don't Know About Al Qaeda Can Still Hurt US

Duh.

3. The Threat Has Gone Viral. By failing to "smoke out" bin Laden as promised, the president has given hope to a new generation of freelance terrorist cells, Islamist copycats and Al Qaeda wanna-be's.

Disagree completely. The copycats would be there irregardless one man. If we had captured Bin Laden, then they would still be copycats. These people are inhuman, were that way before, and now are taking the opportunity to attack because Hussein is out of power. Other copycats outside of Iraq would have existed even if we had not gone into Iraq. This is part in parcel to his point number 5, which I agree with.

4. Fighting Terrorism Is for Cops and Spies, Not Soldiers

Not at all, the only way to fight terrorists is to kill them and lock them up. We cannot send cops abroad, that is illegal, and spies are being used, but cannot be used to apprehend terrorists, who, for the most part are overseas. If we do not fight them abroad, then they will bring their terror and killing back to our mainland. This writer is way off base on this one. Besides, police are virtually ineffective against terrorists. We need soldiers! I wouldn't trust my security to a policeman: I trust myself first, and soldiers second. Cops are mostly there to write speeding tickets, and arrest mostly good people for not obeying the tyranny of government. Look at the IRS: say no more.

5. Terrorism Can't Be Defeated - Ever. Terrorism is not an enemy, but a method. As such, it can never be defeated - only contained and reduced.

Agreed, but that is exactly what we are doing, so why all the rhetoric to the contrary? It sounds like the author agrees with our current policy on the global war on terrorists after all. :)

Ha! Appeasement and diplomacy does not work with terrorists and dictators. Never has, never will.

  • Bush has taken the high road, based on truth and character.
• Seven : For safety's sake, travel in pairs.
  • Under Clinton, there was a wall between the FBI and CIA; under Bush they now cooperate.
• Eight : Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
  • Listening in on conversations of terrorists at a snails pace, saves tons of investigative effort to try to determine in advance what the terrorists are up to by other means; no amount of speed will prevent a terrorist attack if you do not know about it ahead of time.
• Nine : When you're stressed, float a while.
  • Our leader is calm and even tempered, and comes off that way, as gentle, yet stern with our enemies; if you are not with us you are against us. The Media and Democrats, on the other hand, stress the dignity of everyone with their harsh criticisms and rhetoric.
• Ten : Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
  • All Americans are responsible for themselves, government is the first line of defense, but ultimately, never rely upon any institution for your welfare or safety. Trust yourself, work hard, and maintain your own defense because of your right to bear arms.
• Eleven : No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting
  • Smile, because when you are right, the left can do you no harm with their negative rhetoric.

"Folly to ignore Iran's threats to Israel"

Tony Blair, on Iran, recently said:
"I think for a president of a country to say they want to wipe another country off the face of the earth and at the same time he's trying to acquire a nuclear weapons capability....if we don't get worried about that, future historians will raise a few questions about us and about our judgment."

Blair and Bush are smart. Anyone who says otherwise is either naive or not too astute to underestimate future threats from terrorists and Iran. Blair hits the nail on the head, history will judge Blair and Bush as being right, and the nay sayers in the media and the Democrats will be judged harshly, just as the appeasers in WWII were judged to be wrong.

Ligonier Highland Games

On Saturday I witnessed my first Ligonier Highland Games. It was a joy to observe the Bagpipers march on the field during this wonderful Scottish festival. I did enjoy those games, those great Highland games.

Another really interesting item found at the games: I listened to a really interesting bagpiper for about a half hour and wondered how good and prolific this bigpiper really was. So I decided to walk up to the pavilion where he was performing, and what did I find: a robotic bagpiper named McBlare. The fellow demonstrating McBlare was named Roger Dannenberg, a nice smiling gent very willing to explain all the intricacies to me, but he had to tell me in quite a loud voice, because the bagpipes were still playing, and were quite loud, I think my ears are still ringing. After it was done, he took out
his earplugs ;)

Democrats threat to ABC smacks of tyranny

A letter has been sent to ABC that is clearly a threat by the Democrats to the network, plain and simple.

This is tyranny, not democracy.

It looks like ABC is going to cave in to the demands of the left. That is a shame, irregardless of the truth or fiction status of the miniseries coming up titled "The Path to 9/11." Free speech is at stake. The networks are broadcasting stuff all the time about Bush, which is either truth or fiction, depending on your point of view. I see no difference with this. And I'm told that Bush doesn't look so great in this series either. If ABC makes edits to accommodate this threat, then we see tyranny in action!

Apparently, Dick Morris, Clinton's former campaign strategist, believes this attack by Bill Clinton and his allies on the upcoming ABC miniseries "The Path to 9/11" to be "outrageous".

Morris claims that Clinton's national security adviser, Sandy Berger, and the president himself "were both responsible for failing to catch or kill Osama bin Laden on several different occasions."

Blair should join the Tories

I'm told that critics in Britain are calling for Blair to step down because of his alignment with Bush. B.S. to that.

What's my penalty for standing behind Bush...?

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Bush has given us all this. If Kerry were president, I'm confident the terrorists would have hit us again, if not repeatedly, on or off of our own soil. With respect to the pursuit of happiness, well that would be severely hampered with Kerry, because instead of a tax cut, which spurred the economy, it would have been a tax increase, which would have led us into a deep recession. No happiness for anyone, and Liberty would go right out the door, because the D's would reintroduce the 'Fairness Doctrine' which is basically censorship (Critics of the Fairness Doctrine believed that it was primarily used to intimidate and silence political opposition). The Internet would no longer be open for free speech. Yes, re-read the Preamble, and see that under Bush we have all that, yet under the Democrats it would rapidly fade away. The Democrats have turned into the Communist Party: appease, applaud and lend aid to terrorists, destroy the economy, and take over the media. With them, free speech is only free if it comes from the left. :(

Truth be told, if Blair is having problems it is not because of his alignment with Bush, it is because he is a member of the wrong party: he should join the Tories.

Mandatory viewing before election day

One of the best and moving motion pictures of all time: "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington." This should be mandatory viewing for everyone prior to voting in November!

Smith: "I guess this is just another lost cause, Mr. Paine. All you people don't know about lost causes. Mr. Paine does. He said once they were the only causes worth fighting for. And he fought for them once, for the only reason any man ever fights for them. Because of just one plain, simple rule: "Love thy neighbor."

"And in this world today full of hatred, a man who knows that one rule has a great trust. You know that rule, Mr. Paine. And I loved you for it -- just as my father did. And you know that you fight for the lost causes harder than for any others. Yes, you even die for them -- like a man we both knew, Mr. Paine.

[Smith collapses]

... Senator Paine leaves the Senate chamber and, overcome with guilt, attempts to kill himself. When he is stopped, he bursts back into the Senate chamber, loudly confesses to the whole scheme and confirms Smith's innocence.

If only real life were like this!

It is a brilliant performance. This great film ranks amongst my favorites."

The media gets-it, the economy, stupid, that is

Why do "Americans Hate their Fabulous Economy" from a "professor at a major research university, a registered Democrat and a liberal by most measures"

My take on this: It's the fault of the old-stream media. If it were Clinton in office, then this would be the greatest economy of all time, according to the consensus from the left leaning media. The media is powerful, because their push-polls drive public opinion. They've managed to take a good economy, and tar an feather it with their unrelenting negative opinion. Why? They dislike Bush in particular and desire to let the Democrats take back control of congress. The old-stream media likes to wield their power, and they like big government. When are they going to realize that between the Democrats and Republicans, there isn't much difference as far as the size of government is concerned. They both grow government and bureaucracy. So for we the people the choice is between the lesser of two evils, so to speak.

One of his most memorable achievements was the building of the present Mt. St. Peter Church on a high knoll at Freeport Road and Seventh Street. Many skeptics watched as this energetic priest, operating on a shoestring budget, led the congregation in the building of a magnificent church from material salvaged from the 65-room Mellon mansion in Pittsburgh.
